A Road Trip Playlist For The Old Soul

This week's post is by Matthew D'souza who is, in his own words: "a car crazy, football fanatic who also has an indescribable love for all things Italian. I am currently a uni student in the wonderful country of New Zealand which has been my home for the last 5 years though in the past, I have also called three other countries, my home. If you want to read more of my articles, you can follow me on DriveTribe - The Car Connoisseur."

Now that you’ve heard Susanne’s playlist composed of various electronic songs and all that jazz which funnily enough was one of many genres missing from her playlist! It’s time to turn the tables because here’s my playlist and it’s filled with songs from the period of time that she so hates - the 50s, 60s and the 70s. Let’s get started-

1- Come Fly with Me by Frank Sinatra
This was the song that Sinatra used to kick off his legendary live album, ‘Sinatra at the Sands’ and it is also the perfect song to get you into the mood for a perfect road trip.

2- It’s Now or Never by Elvis Presley
Right, if you’re still struggling to start off your trip then this song is just a gentle reminder to get going!

3- Dreams by Fleetwood Mac
Third on the list we have another iconic tune. This song will get you dreaming about how wonderful your road trip will be when combined with this playlist.

4- Runaround Sue by Dion DiMucci
One of the most iconic songs from the 60s, the lively tune of this song will get everyone in a cheerful mood. As road trips usually start early in the morning, this is sure to wake you up!

5- That’s Amore by Dean Martin
Nothing says a good road trip like a song that everyone can sign along to and here’s one of Dino’s best, just for that.

6- Easy by The Commodores
Before Lionel Ritchie was well, Lionel Ritchie, he was part of a band called The Commodores and here’s a song from them that will surely help you relax and enjoy the scenery around because what’s a good road trip without good scenery!

7- Quando, quando, quando by Michael Buble
This is the only song on this list from this century because it’s just too good. I know that I said this playlist would only include songs from last century but Buble is an exception because his music is more reflective of that period rather than today.

8- Bennie and the Jets by Elton John
Now let’s liven up this road trip with another song that everyone can sing along to just like Katherine Heigl and James Marsden did in 27 dresses! This song will surely get everyone clapping and cheering.

9- Beyond the Sea by Bobby Darin
If you’re French, you’ll recognise the tune as ‘La Mer’ by Charles Trenet but here I have gone for Darin’s version. It is a subtle reminder that our great road trip is slowly coming to an end.

10- Yesterday Once More by The Carpenters
Here we are, one song away from the end of our playlist so it’s time to reminisce about the great music and amazing scenery that made this road trip so memorable!

11- Country Roads by John Denver
At the end of the day, there’s no place like home and so that is where Denver is taking us with this song!

Thanks for listening to my playlist and I hope you enjoyed listening to it as much as I did.
